The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has announced a significant cash reward of Rs 50 lakh for the para-shuttlers who secured medals at the recently concluded Paris Paralympics 2024. This announcement comes as a recognition of the athletes’ exceptional performances and their contribution to India’s success on the global stage.
BAI’s reward for Medallists
India’s para-badminton team had an outstanding run at the Paris Paralympics, winning a total of five medals – one gold, two silver, and two bronze. This marks the highest medal tally for India in any edition of the Paralympic Games, showcasing the growing strength and talent in the country’s para-badminton contingent.
Medal Winners and Rewards
The gold medal was clinched by Nitesh Kumar in the Men’s Singles SL3 category. His remarkable performance earned him a cash prize of Rs 15 lakh. Nitesh’s victory is a testament to his dedication and hard work, and it has brought immense pride to the nation.
Suhas Yathiraj, competing in the Men’s Singles SL4 category, added to his silver haul from the Tokyo Paralympics with another silver medal in Paris. Thulasimathi Murugesan also secured a silver medal in the Women’s Singles SU5 category. Both athletes will receive Rs 10 lakh each for their stellar performances.
The bronze medals were won by Manisha Ramadass in the Women’s Singles SU5 category and Nithya Sre Sivan in the Women’s Singles SH6 category. Each of these athletes will be awarded Rs 7.5 lakh for their achievements.

BAI President and Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed his pride in the para-shuttlers’ accomplishments. He emphasized that the cash rewards are a way to acknowledge their hard work and to encourage them to continue striving for excellence. “Indian para-badminton players have been performing consistently on the world stage, and the cash rewards are just one way for BAI to recognize their efforts in helping the country win medals at the Paralympics,” said Sarma.
BAI Secretary General Sanjay Mishra also highlighted the association’s commitment to developing and promoting para-badminton across the country. He mentioned that several initiatives are being undertaken to support para-athletes and help them achieve even greater success in the future.
