After reaching semi finals of the Singapore and Indian open earlier this year, India’s badminton star PV Sindhu had to settle for a second place finish after she faltered in the Indonesia Open finals, losing to Akane Yamaguchi in straight games.

Despite coming into the match having a better head to head record (10-4), Sindhu failed to live up to her expectations and surrendered easily, losing the game 15-21, 16-21 to hand over the first place to Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi.

Surprisingly it was Sindhu who was in the lead when going into the first game break. She had a 11-8 lead and looked poised to win the game. But Yamaguchi fought back and from 14-14, the Japanese took 9 straight points to pocket the game.

Yamaguchi from here on never took her foot of the gas and played one of her best games in recent times. She finished the second game in a convincing manner and take the winners cheque.

Meanwhile Sindhu, who had to settle for the runners up place will now take part in the Japanese open which starts from July 23rd.
