Babar Azam feels Pakistan will be victorious over India in their T20 WC encounter


Pakistan captain Babar Azam has expressed confidence in his side’s abilities to topple India in their T20 World Cup clash in Dubai. The arch-rivals will lock horns on October 24 to get their respective campaigns underway.

Pakistan have made 4 changes to their initial squad named for the tournament as they look to win the trophy for the second time. Babar Azam, who will be leading the nation in an ICC event for the first time, believes that his side will make the most of the ‘home’ conditions on offer and defeat India for the first time in a World Cup. While speaking to ICC, he said:

We’ve been playing cricket in UAE for the past 3-4 years and we know the conditions really well,”

“We know how the wicket will behave and the adjustments batters will have to make. On the day who plays the better cricket, wins the match. If you ask me, we will win,” Azam added

The Pakistan skipper also asserted the importance of confidence and momentum and hopes his side can get the first win quickly out of the way.

“Your belief and confidence as a group matter a lot before a tournament. As a team, our confidence and morale are really high. We are not thinking of the past but the future. We are preparing for that.

“I am fully confident that we are well prepared and will play good cricket on the day,” he added. Talking about his side which is a blend of youth and experience,

Pakistan are in a transitional phase at the moment with head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling Waqar Younis leaving their posts after the squad for the World Cup was announced. Moreover, Ramiz Raja was appointed as the new chairman of the PCB, who announced that Matthew Hayden and Vernon Philander have filled in the vacant spots in the coaching department.

“Hayden and Philander bring a lot of experience. Our attempt will be to learn from them as much as we can and quickly. The boys have the ability to absorb quickly and mix with them” Azam concluded
