Avesh Khan has been one of the most improved players in the 2021 edition of the IPL

The 24-year becomes the second bowler to be asked to stay back in the UAE as a net bowler after pace sensation Umran Malik. Avesh Khan is currently second in the purple cap race behind Harshal Patel. He has kept up with the likes of seasoned pacers such as Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje over the course of the two legs of the IPL.

He has evolved as an all-round bowler spanning expertise across the powerplay, middle overs, and death overs. His U-19 World Cup teammates Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan are already a part of the squad for the World Cup.

Avesh Khan availed the chance to play for the franchise right away after the franchise’s first-choice bowlers were not available at the start of the campaign. The management believes his ability to extract pace and bounce off any surface makes him a valuable asset. A source close to BCCI told PTI:

“The national selectors have decided to also include Avesh in the mix. As of now, he will be a net bowler but if the team management feels, he can be upgraded. “Avesh bowls at an average speed of 142 to 145 clicks, earns disconcerting bounce from the flattest of decks and has been on support staff’s radar for some time,”

Avesh Khan was in the Indian team set up in the recently concluded tour of England. However, his involvement was cut short after he suffered an injury in the warm-up game against County XI. Those close to developments feel that he had a shot in making his debut for the team in that series.

Apart from Umran Malik and Avesh Khan, KKR duo Shivam Mavi and Venkatesh Iyer are also reported to be asked by the BCCI to stay in the UAE after the IPL.
