Team India became the first side to enforce the follow on to Australia in their own backyard after 31 years.
Team India moved a step closer to winning their first series in Australian soil as they bowled out the hosts for just 300 and enforced the follow on. Series victory looks imminent with only a day’s play left, with Aussies still trailing by 316 runs.
The hosts, who continued their second innings got to 6-0 before an early tea was taken due to bad light. No further play was possible after that and the game was abandoned for the day without a ball being bowled in the final session.
Following the follow on India enforced, they created a unique record. India became the first side to enforce a follow on to Australia in their own soil after 31 years.
Kuldeep Yadav (5-99) grabbed a five-wicket haul as the Indian attack took the remaining four wickets in a relatively quick time to bowl Australia out. After Hanuma Vihari put down a catch to round off the innings, Mitchell Starc (29*) and Josh Hazlewood (21) managed to frustrate the tourists with a 42-run partnership for the final wicket.
Now with the series clearly under India’s grasp, they will only look to attack further tomorrow and make it 3-1 despite another gloomy day expected to play spoilsport.
