Although famous as the ‘Gentleman’s game’, the sport of cricket has its major share of blaspheme, and the verbal abuse aka sledging finds its way from senior cricketers to even the youngsters. The ongoing ICC U19 World Cup in South Africa saw the bitter rivals India and Australia take each other on in the quarterfinal yesterday, and sledging came towards Indian bowler Kartik Tyagi. However, the player gave the perfect reply with the ball.
Defending a total of 233, India was looking to create pressure on their opposition’s batting lineup, and Kartik Tyagi propagated by picking up the wickets of Aussie skipper Mackenzie Harvey and Lachlan Hearne in the first over.
In the second over, sledging came from Oliver Davies, the Aussie batsman who was seen raising his bat towards the Indian pacer and uttering something in a foul mouth manner.
Although Tyagi kept mum against the on field swearing, his answer was waiting in the next delivery. The ball slipped on the edge of the bat, and found itself in the hands of the slip fielder Yashasvi Jaiswal. Davies got his reply, as he went back to the pavilion after scoring just two runs.

In his 8 overs, Tyagi showcased a brilliant spell as he picked up a total of four wickets in the match, his fourth victim being Patrick Rowe. India won the match by 74 runs, as the Aussies were all out after scoring 159, and the 19 year old won the Man of the Match award.
Tyagi, who made his Ranji Trophy debut for Uttar Pradesh in 2017, will be playing for Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 IPL.
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 62-off-82 in the first innings, while Atharva Ankolekar kept his strike at 55 runs from 54 balls. In the chase, Sam Fanning was the only Aussie batsman who went past the half century mark, scoring 75 runs.
The semi final is scheduled on 4th February at the Senwes Cricket Stadium in Potchefstroom, and the second quarter final this Friday between Afghanistan and Pakistan will determine India’s next opponent.
