Cricket Australia has recently postponed its men’s team’s tour to South Africa owing to the new COVID-19 outbreak in the rainbow country. However, after the day they have announced this, on Wednesday they have revealed that they will grant No Objection Certificates to the players who will be featured in IPL but on a “case-by-case” basis.
While the players are preparing for the 14th edition of the cash-rich league, their agents have informed that it wouldn’t be tough to get NOCs unless there are injury concerns as the league will be played during CA’s official break, in April. Notably, this is the original window of this league. Last year it took place in the UAE, later the year owing to the global pandemic novel COVID-19.
“We have, obviously, got precedent on that from the IPL last year. We have got, obviously, the IPL, if you like, (has) proven its bio-security protocols,” CA interim CEO Nick Hockley was quoted as saying by Sydney Morning Herald. “As and when applications are made, we will consider each of those case-by-case, on their merits.”
However, Cricket Australia further confirmed that there wouldn’t be any changes in their T20 squad which will tour to New Zealand this month for the five-match series. However, the veteran likes Steve Smith, David Warner, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins wouldn’t travel as well. A total of 19 players have taken part in the recent season of Indian Premier League (IPL) which was played in a bio-secure environment in the UAE.
Meanwhile, nine Australian players, including Australia’s white-ball captain Aaron Finch, veteran captain Steve Smith and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, have been released by their respective franchises and they will be up for grabs in the IPL auction, taking place on February 18.
While the dates of the IPL 2021 are yet to be announced, as per the news that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to start the tournament from the second week of April in a strict bio-secure bubble where the limited number of venues have been decided for all the matches to be played.
