Atletico de Kolkata created history by clinching their third ISL title after defeating Chennaiyin FC 3-1 in Goa in front of empty stands. The Twitter universe made their voice heard with their keypads after failing to be in the stands with their teams.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa held no spectators as the biggest game in Indian football kicked off. The inaugural champions were in the driving seat with an early lead after Javi Hernandez’s volley found the back of the net with 10 minutes on the clock.
ATK managed to double their lead right after half time thanks to a deft finish by Edu Garcia from a tight angle.
Chennaiyin FC managed to claw their way back into the contest after a goal in the 69th minute by Lithuania’s Valskis who netted his 15th goal of the campaign.
The side leading the score managed to kill the game and hit the final nail in the coffin after Hernandez found the net once again in injury time to end the contest.
