Athletics: Hima Das wins 400 metres to clinch gold for India


In her first 400m race since April, Hima Das made a winning comeback clocking a season-best of 52.09s to clinch a gold medal in the Nove Mesto nad Metuji Grand Prix on Saturday.

It has to be said that prior to winning the gold, Das had been in fine form for India, running a series of 200m in the past couple of weeks.

Meanwhile in the women’s 400m ‘A’ final, V.K. Vismaya secured the silver after clocking a personal best of 52.48 seconds. In the other medal winners for the day, Muhammed Anas won the silver in 200m while Noah Nirmal Tom secured a second place finish in 400m.

M.P. Jabir delivered with the goods as he finished the 400m in 49.66s to win the gold medal.

Women’s 400m: 1. Hima Das (52.09s), 2. V.K. Vismaya (52.48), 3. Saritaben Gayakwad (53.28), 4. M.R. Poovamma (53.74), 5. R. Vithya (54.19). Others: V. Subha (54.22), V.K. Shalini (55.39).
