Asian Games 2023: Nikhat Zareen Confirms India’s First Boxing Medal; Secures Paris Olympics 2024 Quota

Two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen recently secured India’s first Boxing medal at the ongoing Asian Games 2023 on Friday. with a dominant win over Jordan’s Hanan Nassar in the 50kg quarterfinal. The Indian boxer outperformed her opponent as she registered an RSC (Referee stops contest) win to reach the semifinals of the event. She has also booked her quota for the Paris Olympics 2024. 

Zareen dominated the first round and secured a victory with 53 seconds remaining in the three-minute bout. Nassar was unable to keep up with the Indian boxer, who landed multiple punches.

The referee administered three standing counts to Nassar, but ultimately halted the match due to Zareen’s relentless offense. This win not only confirms at least a bronze medal for Nikhat, but it also guarantees her a spot in the boxing contingent for the Paris Olympics.

Zareen will take on Chuthamat Raksat in the upcoming semifinals on October 1.
