The Indian mixed doubles pair of Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu won India’s second squash gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games by defeating Aifa Binti Azman and Syafiq Kamal of Malaysia on Thursday.

This marks India’s fourth Squash medal, with the men’s team having already won gold against Pakistan, and the women’s team and mixed doubles pair of Anahat and Abhay Singh securing bronze medals.

Pallikal and Sandu won the match in 35 minutes with a scoreline of 11-10, 11-10.

The final’s first game was a competitive battle, with both teams striving to gain a significant advantage. Malaysia initially secured a 6-4 lead, but their Indian opponents mounted a comeback and evened the score. Pallikal and Sandhu then surged ahead, holding an 8-6 lead. However, Azman and Kamal responded with a string of four straight points and came within striking distance of claiming the first game.

The Indian duo would bounce back quickly and win the remaining points quickly to take a 1-0 lead in the contest.

The second game saw Pallikal and Sandhu taking charging early and take a 9-3 lead. However, the Malaysian duo went on to win seven straight points to make it 10-9 in their favour. Pallikal and Sandhu eventually clinched the gold medal for the Indian team.
