Asian Games 2023: Ancy Sojan Bags Silver In Women’s Long Jump

India’s Ancy Sojan Edappilly clinched the silver medal in the ongoing Asian Games 2023 on Monday. The 22-year-old shocked the fans by making a massive jump of 6.63m, just 0.10m behind champion – China’s Shiqi Xiong.

Ancy, hailing from Thrissur, Kerala, currently holds the women’s long jump under-21 record. Her exceptional athletic abilities have led her to clinch four gold medals in the 100m, 200m, long jump, and 4×100 relay categories at the Khelo India Youth Games. She further proved her prowess by securing fourth place in the Asian Championship held in Thailand, achieving a jump of 6.41m.

Ancy achieved a personal best of 6.56m on her fifth attempt, after setting the bar high with a 6.49m jump on her second attempt.

Meanwhile, India’s Shaili Singh, one of the top-ranked athletes, finished 5th with her best effort at 6.48m, much behind her personal best. In contrast, Shaili Singh was not able to better her first jump (6.38m) till her 5th jump.
