Asian Chess Championship: Praggnanandhaa Outwits Karthikeyan; Nandhidhaa Manages To Retain Lead

In a lengthy chess match spanning six hours, R. Praggnanandhaa came out on top after outwitting his sparring partner, two-time national champion M. Karthikeyan on Tuesday. The chess icon from Tamil Nadu now has 5.5 points after seven rounds of the Asian Chess Championship currently taking place in New Delhi.

Praggnanandhaa joined Harsha Bharathakoti, Koustav Chatterjee, and Shamsiddin Vokhidov in the lead after two rounds.

As for the women’s section, P. V. Nandhidhaa (6) lost half her overnight lead after taking on former champion Padmini Rout. Priyanka (5.5), meanwhile, defeated Nilufar Yakubbaeva of Uzbekistan to move up to second place

After beating Nisha Mohota with lady luck in her favour, Soumya Swaminathan (5) was able to move up to the third place, sharing the spot alongside Padmini and National champion Divya Deshmukh.
