Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is on the verge of achieving a major milestone in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, which will be the 15th edition of the tournament. This will mark his seventh Asia Cup tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led India are set to lock horns with Babar Azam-led Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Sunday, August 28. Rohit Sharma, who is India’s second-highest run scorer in the Asia Cup with 883 runs in his bag, has so far played 27 matches in the Asia Cup.

‘The Hitman’ needs just a couple of more matches to break Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene’s record for most appearances in the tournament. Mahela Jayawardene holds the record for the most number of matches played in Asia Cup as he has played 28 games in the tournament.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi played 27 Asia Cup games while veteran Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim played 26 Asia Cup matches. Bangladesh player Mahmudullah and former Sri Lanka batter Sanath Jayasuriya have featured in 25 Asia Cup games while MS Dhoni and Aravinda de Silva have played 24 matches in the Asia Cup.

The coveted tournament was originally set to be played in Sri Lanka but the venue was changed to United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the economic and political crisis in the country. The Asia Cup T20 games will be played across two venues, including Dubai International Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

The Asia Cup 2022 is scheduled to be played from August 27 to September 11 in United Arab Emirates (UAE) with Sri Lanka taking on Afghanistan in the opening clash.
