The former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has expressed his concern towards the lackluster performances from KL Rahul in the ongoing Asia Cup. Team India are set to take on arch-nemesis Pakistan once again on Sunday, September 4 in Super 4 clash of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022. Ahead of the blockbuster clash, Jaffer suggested dropping Rahul and bring in Rishabh Pant.
KL Rahul could be replaced as opening batsman
“I’d be tempted, especially against Pakistan, to throw in Pant as an opener,” Jaffer said.
“KL Rahul hasn’t found his touch yet, even though he is a class player, don’t get me wrong. But just on current form, he hasn’t played much cricket, so I’d be tempted to play Pant there, because if he bats through the Powerplay with Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan to bowl, it’s a dangerous proposition. And with Axar Patel coming in later on,” Jaffer further explained.
After falling for a duck against Pakistan in the Group A encounter, Rahul was heavily criticized for his 39-ball 36 against Hong Kong.
Kohli’s fifty aided Suryakumar Yadav’s blistering knock of 68 as the defending champions India defeated Hong Kong by 40 runs in their Asia Cup match on Wednesday, registering their second successive win in the coveted tournament.
Sent into bat at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, India scored 192 for two with Kohli (59 not out) and Yadav (68 not out) being the team’s main contributors. In reply, Hong Kong were stopped at 152 for five in their allotted 20 overs as India entered the Super 4 stage of the tournament.
The Men in Blue will have to make some adjustments to their team with Ravindra Jadeja out injured and there is concern regarding Avesh Khan as well.
