After being set a mammoth target of 359 to scale down in the fourth innings, Joe Denly and Joe Root have set the platform to do the unthinkable. At stumps, the hosts now need 203 runs with 7 wickets in hand.

The World Champions made quick work of the rest of the batting line-up which included Marnus Labuschagne who scored his second fifty of the match. The southpaw was struck on the helmet yet again by Jofra Archer but thankfully not much damage was caused.

Dismissing the Aussies for 246, England had a target of 359 to chase. The hosts were reeling at 15-2 with both the openers back in the dugout. Jason Roy’s horror start to his Test career continued with yet another failure.

Skipper Joe Root, coming off not the best of runs, was joined by Joe Denly, who also has looked out of sorts in this series so far. The duo struck an unlikely 126-run to thwart the Aussie assault.

Joe Denly was dismissed soon after reaching his fifty while the skipper still stands guard unbeaten on 75 with Ben Stokes at the other end.
