As the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships entered their second day in Amman, Jordan, on Wednesday, Mohammad Hussamuddin advanced into the quarterfinals, courtesy of his experience and composure to win a close contest
In the 57 kg pre-quarter finals, the 2022 CWG bronze medallist Hussamuddin squared off against Seiitbek Uulu Munarbek of Kyrgyzstan. As the Indian boxer started on a bright note, he demonstrated his technical superiority and clean boxing in the first round, however, his opponent fought back strongly in the second round to bring the fight back on equal level.
The two pugilists were engaged in a fierce battle in the last round, and both started attacking from the beginning, but Hussamuddin was able to land more accurate punches and dodge his opponent consistently, resulting in a 3-2 split verdict for him. Up next, Hussamuddin will take on Ilyas Hussain of Pakistan in the quarterfinals.
Hussamuddin’s victory came in the wake of Lakshya Chahar’s victory, who advanced into the 80 kg quarterfinals after dominating Tajikistan’s Shabbos Negmat 5-0 in the pre-quarterfinals on Tuesday.
