Arsenal’s post-Wenger future in shambles as Mislintat readies to depart

Just when a light of new hope had begun to shine on a struggling Arsenal, when a massive club overhaul saw the retirement of long time manager Arsene Wenger alongside CEO Ivan Gazidis’ exit, recruitment head Sven Mislintat is reportedly on the verge of leaving the club barely a year after appointment.

The cause of Mislintat’s exit seems to be a huge row between the club’s hierarchy at the top and the former Borussia Dortmund scout. Mislintat, who was responsible for getting the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Lucas Torreira, Dinos Mavropanos and Sokratis Papastathapolous over to north London since his arrival in December 2017, is unhappy with the distribution of power at Arsenal as his potential targets and leads are not met with the approval he would like.

After Raul Sanllehi joined in September last year, his promotion to head of football meant he had a say in the club’s transfer policies. And with the appointment of ‘head coach’ Unai Emery, it was clearly stated that the management had to shared equally at various levels. But with Emery also having a say in the transfers, Mislintat’s ways of working are said to have disrupted.

In addition to falling out with the club’s top brass, Mislintat, 46, had hoped to acquire the position of technical director at the club. But with the Gunners opting to go for former player Edu in that position, and Sanllehi’s contact book for new recruitments, Mislintat appears to be fully prepared to leave the Emirates.

According to reports, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are set to get Mislintat to join them in order to upgrade their ageing squad, and the 46-year old German might just take the opportunity to go back to Germany.
