An old video of an interview has emerged of Nicolas Pépé, who recently joined the Gunners this Thursday for a record £72 million transfer fee from Lille, where the player stated that a transfer to Premier League rivals Chelsea was a dream for him.
The 24 year old, who arrived at Holloway this Thursday on a contract extending till 2024, was seen in a video from 2017 stating to French football programme Téléfoot that the then Angers FC forward’s dream destination was Stamford Bridge.
“Chelsea is a club that would be a dream for me. It’s the only club in England that I would sign for.” the Ivorian said.

Following the interview shortly, Pépé moved to Ligue 1 side Lille, until Unai Emery landed him at London this window.
Some Blues fans have speculated that this is a sign that the player’s ultimate destination is Frank Lamprd’s side, as seen previously in the cases of Ashley Cole, Cesc Fàbregas and Olivier Giroud.
Born at Mantes-la-Jolie, France, the Ivory Coast international has had an impressive spell with Les Dogues, catching Emery’s attention, scoring 35 goals in 74 appearances.
Arsenal’s 47 year old gaffer hailed the winger, and also considered the transfer a key to Arsenal’s success in the near future.
The Spaniard said: “Nicolas is a highly rated and talented winger who was wanted by many of the top teams in Europe.”
“Signing a top-class winger has been one of our key objectives in this transfer window and I’m delighted he’s joining.”
“He will add pace, power and creativity, with the aim of bringing more goals to our team.”
