Arsenal propose Ramsey-Benatia swap but Juventus shoot it down

With the departure of Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who is all set to join Italian side Juventus by the end of the season, the north London side hoped to salvage all they can from the deal and proposed for Juventus defender Medhi Benatia to swap places. The Bianconeri have straight up rejected the proposition.

Welshman Aaron Ramsey’s contract with the Gunners runs out at the end of this term and is due to joining the former Serie A champions coming June on a free transfer, leaving the Arsenal midfield barren and vacant. Unai Emery, in turn, in an attempt to solve the club’s pitiful defensive woes will hope to do all he can to strengthen the Gunners’ backline starting this month, and in order to do so, the north London club proposed Juventus send defender Medhi Benatia England’s way as part of a swap deal involving Ramsey.

The Bianconeri have rejected Arsenal’s proposition for the swap, despite hoping to acquire the Wales international as early as this month as the Gunners’ head coach does not wish to part with the midfielder so early on, without the involvement of 31-year old Benatia in the deal.

Noteworthy fact is that, as per reports, the Turin based club have no intention of losing the Morocco international mid-season, despite interest from Bundesliga club Schalke 04 and fellow Serie A side Milan, in addition to Arsenal.

Should the Moroccan defender choose to be involved in the deal, the swap just might be a reality and Emery’s saving grace.
