Arsenal are hopeful of signing Barcelona central midfielder Denis Suarez in this month’s transfer window. Unai Emery, the Gunners boss who took over the club this season has taken a liking for Suarez, who played under the Spanish coach during his time at Spanish side Sevilla from 2014-15.

Suarez returned to the Catalonian side back in 2016, prior to which, he was loaned to Sevilla in 2014 after signing for Barcelona in 2013, who made a buy back clause for the Spaniard to eventually recruit their former player back for a fee of €3.5 million. Upon his return to the La Liga giants, Suarez signed a 4-year deal, under which he still remains until 2020. However, severe lack of play time in Catalonia has marred the U-21 Spanish national team captain, as he made only 12 Liga appearances in his first season with Barca, and his play time has exponentially dwindled then onward.

Despite making merely 27 appearances overall last season, in which he won a La Liga and a Copa del Rey, Suarez has failed a hold onto a starting place under Ernesto Valverde, as the 24-year old midfielder has made only 6 appearances so far, this term.

However, Arsenal boss Unai Emery is keen on reuniting with his former player, for whom, a buyout clause of about £20m has been stated. Although the north London club wish to acquire the Suarez’s services only on loan, Barcelona prefer a permanent move for the midfielder. Should the case be, Suarez would become Arsenal’s first signing of this year, as they also hope to make for the deficit caused by the exit of Aaron Ramsey.
