Arsenal were heavily linked to sign Inter Milan winger and Croatian World Cup finalist Ivan Perisic, albeit on loan. However, with Inter refusing any loan deals for the player, the Perisic option grades out for the Gunners, who now divert their attention to long time prospect Yannick Carrasco.
Perisic was on the Gunners’ top priority for a brief time earlier. However, given that the north London side could afford only loan signings this window, Inter’s hierarchy, willing to let go of the 29-year old midfielder only permanently, shot down Arsenal’s advances and prompting to reignite their pursuit for Carrasco.
Former Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco moved to Chinese side Dalian Yifang from Spain in February last year. And while the Chinese Super League club hasn’t been doing all that well, discontented, the Belgian international is desperately seeking a way out of Asia.
It is understood that Carrasco is willing to take a significant pay cut for a move to the Premier League, and Arsenal head coach Unai Emery is all set to welcome the 25-year old Belgian winger, alongside a potential loan signing of Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, who will have completed the move before the deadline.
Although on loan initially, Arsenal will have the option of buying both, Suarez and Carrasco for £25m and £18m, respectively, at the end of the season, should the club choose to do so.
