Arsenal have responded from a heavy thumping at Anfield and beat relegation worried Fulham 4-1 at Emirates Stadium. It was an eventful New Years day fixture as Arsenal had to oblige plenty of doubts of home fans.
The Gunners had won just one of their last five matches in all competitions before taking on the Cottagers and trailed Chelsea in the race for the top four by five points.
New year, new game new formation. With Emery past the halfway stage of his first season at Arsenal, it remains unclear what his favoured system will be at the club. The Spaniard has, more often that not, played a 4-2-3-1 formation at the Emirates but the Gunners’ display at Anfield convinced him to switch to an unorthodox 3-4-1-2 formation against Fulham.
Granit Xhaka opened the scoring and Lacazette followed suit. Kamara restored one back but goals from Aaron Ramsey and the man in form Aubameyang sealed 3 points for Arsenal.
Despite the win, it was a display of leaky defence from Arsenal and with the advent of 2019 comes the winter transfer window. The North London side need to bag their share of decent signings if they are to compete among the big 6 for a spot in the top 6.
