In its most recent event, World’s biggest Arm Wrestling tournament i.e Pro Panja League introduced the concept of running fouls.
Pro Panja League partnered with the Sood Classic World Strongman Games to host its latest Arm Wrestling tournament at the Chandigarh University on 25th and 26th February. Pro Panja League has bought a revolution in Indian Arm Wrestling and has taken numerous steps to raise the standard of Arm Wrestling in the country. Most recently, they did so by introducing ‘Running Fouls’. Before we understand what running foul is, we need to understand the concept of fouls in Arm Wrestling.
There are two different sorts of fouls and many methods in which they can happen.
A foul may occur in a number of ways. The most frequent occurrence when the wrestler’s elbow either accidentally slides off the pad (sometimes on purpose) or is significantly lifted off the pad. A foul is assessed to the wrestler if this happens. To restart the round, the wrestler on the foul must first secure the restart pin. The wrestler forfeits the round if he commits a second foul.
During a match, it is also a foul if a wrestler’s shoulder brushes his opponent’s hand. This usually happens when a wrestler attempts to push his opponent to the mat by bringing his shoulder over his hand and into contact with the opponent when in a dominant position.
Jump-starting before the referee signals “ready go” constitutes a third manner to be called for a foul.
A “running foul” occurs when the wrestler’s own elbow leaves the padding but quickly reapplies. When this happens, the match will continue. Nevertheless, if the wrestler on the running foul pins his opponent, the round will reset, and the wrestler will have one foul instead of the win. There is no need for a restart if the wrestler with the foul loses the round.

During an Instagram Live session with Pro Panja League’s Abhishek Singh, the Gwalior Arm Wrestling sensation revealed why he was happy with the introduction of running foul in the Pro Panja League.
“I really enjoyed playing under the running foul set-up. Not only the players, even the audience will love watching the sport under this new set-up. Previously the referees used to stop the fight when a player used to commit fouls. Now, the match keeps on running and if you have committed a foul, then you have to win no matter what in order to get a rematch. This will result in players not committing intentional fouls. The players will now have to work on their staminas aswell,” Jogendra Yadav said.
