Anwar Ali’s Transfer Saga to Delhi FC: NOC Granted, But Risks Remain

6

Indian football defender Anwar Ali finds himself at the centre of a transfer dispute, but recent developments have provided some clarity. Anwar Ali has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and returned to his parent club, Delhi FC, after the termination of his loan deal with Mohun Bagan SG. This move came as he was close to securing a permanent transfer to East Bengal.

The suspense around Anwar Ali’s case continues

While Ali’s registration with East Bengal (or any other club) is still under scrutiny, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Player Status Committee has scheduled the next hearing for August 22. The outcome of this dispute could have serious repercussions, including transfer bans and monetary fines, as per FIFA regulations.

Ali’s loan agreement with Mohun Bagan was terminated due to new FIFA rules rendering any loan longer than one year invalid. Despite having three years left on his existing loan agreement, Ali expressed his desire to exit the Bagan deal, citing harm to his future prospects.

The AIFF committee clarified that Anwar’s participation in any competition until the case’s final disposal “shall be at the risk of both the player and his new club.” Delhi FC and East Bengal have additional time until August 20 to respond to Bagan’s counter-claim.

Ali can now return to Delhi FC before completing a transfer to East Bengal. He already has an agreement with East Bengal, but both he and interested clubs must proceed cautiously until the final order.

While the NOC allows Ali to rejoin Delhi FC and potentially move to East Bengal, the legal complexities and risks underscore the importance of a prudent approach for all parties involved.
