Angkrish Raghuvanshi, the young sensation of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), put up a show last night against Delhi Capitals in Vizag. His blistering knock helped KKR to not deviate from the scoring rate and helped them to post a record total of 272 on the board.
The Journey of Angkrish Raghuvanshi
Born in Delhi, Angkrish moved to Mumbai at the age of 11 to hone his cricketing skills. He made a name for himself in the 2022 U-19 World Cup, where he amassed 278 runs and helped India clinch the championship. His journey in the IPL began as an impact player for KKR against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
In his first appearance with the bat, Angkrish scored a blistering half-century, crafting a match-winning 104-run partnership with Sunil Narine. His innings, peppered with fours and sixes, took the game away from DC. This performance not only showcased his talent but also revealed his potential as a future star of Indian cricket.
Behind this success, Angkrish credits one man – Abhishek Nayar. Nayar, who has been training him since childhood, is the ‘main man’ behind his success. Angkrish’s ability to play shots like the reverse sweep, which was evident in his knock against DC, was honed under Nayar’s guidance.
Angkrish’s journey has not been without challenges. His younger brother Krishan, a tennis player, was diagnosed with blood cancer as a toddler. The ordeal of his brother’s treatment made him mentally tough. This mental toughness is evident in his approach to the game and his ability to perform under pressure.
Angkrish’s ultimate dream is to don the Indian jersey. But he wants to do it differently. He wants people to look at him and say, “He’s different”. With his current form and dedication, that dream doesn’t seem too far.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi and KKR will next travel to Chennai to take on CSK on April 8. As the tournament progresses, cricket fans will be eagerly watching this young prodigy, hoping to see more match-winning performances.
