Ahead of his bronze medal play-off at the Paris Olympics 2024, Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat faced an extraordinary challenge. After losing in the men’s 57kg wrestling semifinal, he found himself 4.5 kilograms over the permissible weight limit (weighing in at 61.5kg). With just 10 hours to go before the next weigh-in, Aman had to shed the excess weight to stay eligible for the bronze medal match.
Aman Sehrawat’s sleepless night for Olympic Glory
- Mat Session: The ‘mission’ kicked off with a 1.5-hour mat session, where Aman engaged in standing wrestling under the guidance of his two senior coaches.
- Hot-Bath Session: This was followed by a 1-hour hot-bath session to help him start sweating and cutting weight.
- Gym Session: At 12:30 am, they headed to the gym. Aman had a non-stop 1-hour run on the treadmill to further promote sweating.
- Short Break: After the treadmill session, Aman took a 30-minute break.
- Sauna Sessions: Post-break, Aman underwent five 5-minute sauna sessions to continue shedding weight.
- Massage and Jogging: Despite all this, Aman was still 900g over the limit. He received a massage and then engaged in light jogging as advised by his coaches.
- Running Sessions: Aman then completed five 15-minute running sessions. By 4:30 am, he weighed 56.9kg—100g below the limit.
- Hydration: Throughout these intense activities, Aman was given lukewarm water with lemon and honey, along with a bit of coffee.
- No Sleep: After completing the weight cut, Aman did not sleep, staying alert until the weigh-in.
Aman Sehrawat was 61.5 KG after the Semi-Final defeat.

Aman would reveal that he wouldn’t sleep and was watching wrestling videos all night.
Despite the intense effort and sleepless night, Aman Sehrawat clinched the bronze medal by defeating Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz. His determination and the unwavering support of his coaches allowed him to overcome the odds and secure Olympic glory.
