Adam Zampa recalls funny banter with RCB skipper Virat Kohli in IPL 2020

As the series between India and Australia is going to start soon, Australia’s leg-spinner Adam Zampa shared the banter with Virat Kohli as well. Notably, they recently played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the recently concluded Indian Premier League in the UAE.

In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Zampa revealed a side of Virat Kohli that he believes not others know about that. Zampa picked up two wickets while playing in just three games for RCB this year as well.

“He’s absolutely not what you see on the cricket field. He always brings his intensity to training and the game; he loves competition, and he hates losing as much as anyone,” Zampa told. “He probably shows it more than anyone. Once he’s off the park, he’s the most chilled guy. He’s watching YouTube clips on the bus, and he’ll laugh out loud,” he added.

Although they have become friends now, their first meeting was not friendly too. They engaged in banter during the 2017 IPL edition when Zampa made his IPL debut for Rising Pune Supergiant against RCB. Kohli scored 973 runs in that season. Meanwhile, just before the game, his RPS teammate Kane Richardson shared a picture of Kohli and AB de Villiers on Twitter.

To which, Zampa made a funny comment on that photo which did not go well with Indian fans. He tweeted, “just taking a piss, ‘Who are they mate?’.” And to make things worse, Virat Kohli too responded.

“I played my debut, bowled an over to him, the last ball of the over, he smacked it for four, came down to me and said, ‘Stay a long way from Twitter, mate’. Basically, pipe down,” he added. Kohli’s presence surprised Zampa and that “stoked the fire”, Zampa again shared.

India’s upcoming tour of Australia includes three ODIs, three T20Is and four Tests. The first limited-overs series will be played on Friday, November 27 in Sydney. The team is currently undergoing the 14-day mandatory quarantine period.
