Abhinav Bindra, India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist, proudly participated in the Paris 2024 Olympics torch relay. As a torchbearer, he carried the iconic Olympic flame through the streets of the French capital. This honour follows his recent receipt of the prestigious Olympic Order from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In a heartfelt social media post, Bindra shared his experience: “Carrying the Olympic flame yesterday in the Paris 2024 Torch Relay was an honour beyond words. A true sports legend and India’s first-ever individual Olympic gold medalist, Bindra carried the Olympic torch as part of the relay event for the upcoming Paris Olympics. He received this prestigious award from the IOC for his outstanding services to the Olympic Movement. The flame represents our collective spirit and the power of dreams. The Olympic Order is the highest honour given by the IOC, celebrating remarkable achievements in sports.

Abhinav Bindra secured his place in history by winning the gold medal in the men’s 10-metre air rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Games, becoming India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist. Beyond his competitive achievements, Bindra has contributed significantly to the sport’s governance and athlete representation. He served as Chair of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) from 2014 and was a member from 2010 to 2020. Additionally, he has been a member of the IOC Athlete Commission since 2018.
