Abhimanyu Loura starts on a winning note

Abhimanyu Loura, a national championships bronze medallist, faced off against Nikolov, a 10-time Bulgarian national champion. The match started with Nikolov seizing the early momentum, but Loura quickly switched gears and went on the offensive in the second round. His aggressive approach paid off, with four of the five judges ruling the round in his favour.

Loura continued his offensive strategy in the third and final round, eventually clinching the bout 3-0. This victory not only sealed his spot in the round of 32 but also marked the second win for the Indian contingent at the qualifiers.

Earlier, Sachin Siwach had opened India’s account with a win in the 57kg category against Alex Mukuka of New Zealand. India has fielded seven men and three women in the second world qualifiers, with Abhinash Jamwal (63.5kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) set to take the ring for the first time.

The Boxing World Qualifiers serve as a crucial platform for boxers to secure their spots for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. With each win, the Indian boxers are not just inching closer to their Olympic dreams but also making a mark in the international boxing arena.

As the qualifiers progress, all eyes will be on the Indian boxers, including Loura, as they aim to secure more wins and, ultimately, a ticket to the Paris Olympics.
