Former South African cricket captain AB de Villiers has expressed his admiration for Indian cricketer Sanju Samson, urging selectors to consider him for all three formats of the game. De Villiers believes that Samson’s recent performances and versatility make him a strong candidate for Test, ODI, and T20I cricket.

Sanju Samson’s recent Performances

Sanju Samson has been in exceptional form, particularly in T20Is. He recently scored back-to-back centuries, including a 47-ball 111 against Bangladesh and a 107 off 50 balls against South Africa. These performances have highlighted his aggressive batting style and ability to adapt to different conditions.

“Sanju Samson, who scored a massive 100. Back-to-back T20 hundreds, absolutely incredible. Am incredibly proud of the guy, I say proud because I do have a personal connection with him. We have been in touch for a number of years now. I have always been a big fan of Sanju Samson, I just love the way he plays, and I always want him to do well,” AB de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

De Villiers praised Samson’s ability to adjust to various playing conditions around the world. He noted that Samson’s playing style has matured, moving from a conservative approach to a more aggressive one. This adaptability is crucial for success across all formats of the game.

De Villiers shared a personal connection with Samson, having followed his career closely. He recalled a memorable century by Samson against Royal Challengers Bangalore, which convinced him of Samson’s potential. De Villiers expressed pride in Samson’s achievements and excitement for his future in cricket.

“He scored a 100 once at the Chinnaswamy Stadium against RCB, I was on the park and I realised that day, that this guy is something special and he is proving me right. For those of you who have followed Sanju Samson, I haven’t often seen him bat at a strike rate of more than 200, he is generally more conservative, he is usually between 140-160 and both these hundreds he has scored back-to-back have been very very fast and especially this last hundred,” he added.

De Villiers emphasized that Samson has reached a maturity level in his career, making him ready for the challenges of Test and ODI cricket. He believes that Samson has untapped potential and could excel in all formats if given the opportunity.

“Sanju has upped the gear in his game. I hope the selectors are watching this for all the formats. I want to see this guy play all the formats. I think he is someone who is really really special, someone who can play all the formats, in all conditions around the world. I think there is another gear, a sixth gear, I want to see it unfold,” he added.
