Aakash Chopra takes a Cheeky Dig at Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Toss Record

Former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator, Akash Chopra, known for his insightful analysis and candid remarks, made a cheeky comment about Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad. The comment was in reference to Gaikwad’s poor record with winning tosses in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s forgettable record at winning tosses

Chopra, ahead of Chennai’s 12th clash against GT, highlighted that the toss would be crucial for the fixture at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, he humorously pointed out that Gaikwad, despite his exceptional performance with the bat, has had a run of bad luck with tosses. The 27-year-old skipper has won just one toss out of 11 games.

“The toss will be important once again but our brother doesn’t win tosses. Of course, his name is Ruturaj Gaikwad. He scores a lot of runs, and plays very well, but his plan to win tosses is not working out. So I really hope. There will be a lot of focus on him as a batter because if you feel the opposing team is slightly 50-50 in bowling, you want to maximize,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Despite his forgettable toss record, Gaikwad has been in sensational form with the bat in the ongoing season, being the second-highest run-scorer with 541 runs to his name from 11 innings at an average of 60.11 and a strike rate of 147.01 with one hundred and four fifties. He played a scintillating knock of 108* off 60 balls against LSG and followed it up with a 54-ball 98 against SRH.

Meanwhile, CSK are comfortably placed on the fourth spot on the points table with six wins from 11 matches having 12 points to their name. The defending champions need to win at least two out of their remaining three matches to qualify for the playoffs for the record 13th time in the tournament’s history.

As CSK progresses ahead in the season, all eyes will be on legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni who’s expected to retire from the T20 extravaganza at the end of the season
