Contrary to media speculation and social media rumors, Shubman Gill has not been sent back home from the T20 World Cup due to disciplinary issues. During the New York leg of the T20 World Cup, there were rumors circulating on social media that the team management was unhappy with Shubman Gill’s conduct. Some even claimed that he had unfollowed India captain Rohit Sharma on Instagram, leading to strained relations within the team.

However, reliable sources have confirmed that these rumors are unfounded. Gill, who was one of the four traveling reserves for Team India, has had no disciplinary issues during his stay in the USA. The decision to release him from the squad is not due to any misconduct but rather a strategic move by the team management.

Why Was Shubman Gill Released?

The team management assessed their requirements for the upcoming Super 8s stage of the tournament. As a result, they decided to release Gill and fast bowler Avesh Khan. Gill’s departure is not a consequence of any disciplinary action but rather a tactical decision. The team management deemed that they did not need a backup opener for the remainder of the tournament.

As the T20 World Cup progresses, Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed will continue traveling with the 15-man squad to the Caribbean for the Super 8s leg. Meanwhile, Gill and Avesh Khan will return to India after the group stage.
