Rohit Sharma will be looking to improve on his mediocre form ahead of the World Cup.

Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians reached the second spot in the points table on Thursday night after they defeated Delhi Capitals by 40 runs in their own backyard. The visitors were better as compared to the hosts in almost all aspects as Delhi failed to turn up good in their home ground, yet again. Owing to this win, Mumbai Indians are now second in the points table with 6 wins in 9 games, only behind the CSK.

However, this year hasn’t been up to the mark for Rohit Sharma- the batsman. He has scored 223 runs in the 8 games with an average of a little over 27. He has been getting good starts but has failed to convert them into big scores. However, Rohit Sharma, the captain has had a more than satisfactory IPL. And on Thursday, winning the match wasn’t the only thing Rohit Sharma would be happy about. He also reached the 8000 T20 runs mark while batting in the first innings of the game.

Rohit is the third Indian batsman after Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli to achieve this feat. The Hitman was just 12 runs away at the start of his innings.

Rohit Sharma has now scored 8018 runs in T20 cricket since the start of his career. Since the IPL 2008, Rohit Sharma has 4716 runs in 181 matches he has played for the Deccan Chargers and the Mumbai Indians in the biggest T20 league. He has also scored 2331 runs for the Indian team in T20 internationals, is the third most prolific batsman with the bat for the Men in Blue.

Against the Delhi Capitals, the Hitman looked set for a big score as he was involved in a useful opening partnership with Quinton de Kock. However, again he failed to convert his start as Amit Mishra bowled an absolute beauty to uproot the stumps behind Sharma. An all-round show from the Pandya brothers in the latter half of the innings meant that Mumbai had a strong hold over the game. Also, a brilliant spell from Rahul Chahar in the second innings made things easier for Mumbai who won the game convincingly, taking the Mumbai Indians one step closer to the playoffs.

The Hitman would be looking to score big when the Mumbai Indians take on the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Saturday. It will be payback time for Mumbai who lost their first encounter against RR in this season.
