The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), India’s ruling party, has made a significant commitment to the development of sports in India. In its election manifesto titled ‘Sankalp Patra’ (Resolution Letter), the BJP pledged to assist the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in launching its bid for the 2036 Olympics.

The BJP, seeking to return to power for the third consecutive time, outlined a comprehensive plan for sports development in India. The party promised to develop state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure to host international sports events. This commitment is a part of the BJP’s broader vision to promote sports at all levels, from grassroots to international competitions.

The BJP’s manifesto also highlighted the party’s plan to launch a new programme for sportspersons, providing them with benefits like educational, employment, and promotional opportunities. This initiative aims to support athletes in their professional journey and ensure their well-being beyond their sporting careers.

In addition to supporting individual athletes, the BJP also plans to boost domestic sports manufacturing under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharath’ initiative. This move is expected to incentivize the sports goods sector and contribute to the vision of a self-reliant India.

The BJP’s commitment to sports development extends to traditional Indian sports as well. The party plans to include various traditional sports under the Khelo India scheme. This initiative aims to promote indigenous sports and nurture future athletes who can represent India with pride.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously expressed India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympics. The BJP’s pledge to facilitate the IOA’s bid for the 2036 Olympics is a significant step towards realizing this ambition.
