The 2021 Tokyo Olympics is set to begin on July 23rd. The long-awaited event was cancelled last year due to the pandemic and Japan decided to go ahead with its plan of hosting the event despite the increasing number of covid affected patients. The showpiece event will be broadcasted live on DD Sports across the entire Indian subcontinent.

“Behold the mega coverage of Olympics 2020, brought to you by Prasar Bharati, through its twin network of Doordarshan and All India Radio, and dedicated sports channel DD Sports. Different sporting events at the Olympics will be broadcast live daily on DD Sports from 5 am to 7 pm.” announced the information and broadcasting ministry yesterday.

The games related information and the highlights of the day will be available on the official Twitter handles of DD Sports and AIR Sports.

Doordarshan and All India Radio are also to host special events before the Games begin officially. There will be a four-hour-long discussion show produced by DD Sports to talk about the prospects of the Indian contingent. The show is part of the Cheer for India campaign. The ministry has encouraged sports enthusiasts to tune into the show before the live premiere of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

“Each day, there will be two different sessions with different themes. The two sessions of July 22 will be repeated from 7 pm to 9 pm the same day and from 9 am to 11 am the next day on July 23 on DD Sports.”

The radio stations – AIR capital stations, DRM and FM Rainbow network will be hosting a curtain raiser programme.

“The programme will also be carried over Youtube channel, DTH and on NewsonAir mobile app within the territory of India.”

The ministry announced that the FM channels will broadcast breaking news regarding India’s win at the Olympics.

“Breaking news may also be broadcast on the FM channels whenever India wins a medal.”

Listeners can also tune into the radio channels to hear about the off-tube commentary of the matches taking place at the capital of Japan, Tokyo.

“AIR will broadcast off-tube commentary of quarter-finals and matches for bronze medal only if Indian teams feature in those matches. Broadcast of off-tube commentary of hockey matches is subject to availability of live feed.”
