During the Khelo India National Ranking women’s weightlifting competition held Sunday in Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh, 17-year-old Haryanvi weightlifter Bhawna has set new national junior and youth records in the 64kg weight class.

The teenager won the titles in seniors, juniors, and youth categories with her efforts of 88kg in snatch and 113kg in clean and jerk for an aggregate of 201kg.

In snatch, the previous junior record was 86kg, in clean and jerk, the previous record was 112kg, and in total, the previous record was 197kg. On the other hand, 78kg, 99kg, and 176kg remain the old youth records.

A silver medalist in 55kg at the Commonwealth Games, Bindyarani Devi lifted 84 kg in snatch and 113 kg in clean and jerk for 197kg, winning the gold medal in 59kg.

One of the country’s most well known lifters, Popy Hazarika, however, had a disappointing performance as she failed to grab any medals in the 80kg despite three attempts. The junior title went to Sukarna, while the youth title went to Shandrella Huyam (73kg, 97kg, 170kg).
