The Last Chance Regatta, held in Hyeres, France, from April 20-27, 2024, offers Indian sailors their final opportunity to secure quota spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics in the remaining nine categories of sailing.
Final Opportunity for Indian Sailing at Last Chance Regatta
A 17-member Indian contingent, led by Nethra Kumanan, Prince Noble, and Manu Francis, is participating in this Olympic Qualifying event. Vishnu Saravanan is the only Indian sailor who has already secured a spot in the men’s ILCA7 category for the Paris Olympics.
Nethra Kumanan, who represented India at the Tokyo Olympics, narrowly missed out on a quota place at the Asian Games and World Championships. She is aiming to secure her second Olympic quota place at this event in France. Kumanan competes in the women’s dinghy (ILCA 6 class).
The experienced men’s pair of Prince Noble and Manu Francis will try to continue their form from last year. They clinched a bronze medal at the Asian Sailing Championships and will be seen in the men’s skiff event at the Last Chance Regatta.
Other Indian sailors participating in the event include Ravindra Kumar Sharma, Sudhanshu Shekhar, Anand Thakur, Satyam Rangad, Aditya Sangwan, Dayne Edgar Agnelo Coelho, Saurabh Kumar, Shraddha Verma, Uma Chouhan, Ishwariya Ganesh, Katya Ida Coelho, Ramya Saravanan, and Siddeshwar Indar Doiphode.
The Last Chance Regatta offers quota spots in all ten sailing events. Each country can only obtain one quota per event for the Summer Games. Overall, 39 spots will be allocated in Hyeres.
