Following the mandatory six day quarantine period after reaching Dubai on 21st August, the CSK squad was supposed to start their training from Friday, with the proposed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), in effect, including the bio-bubble and frequent testing. As part of the protocols, all the players, officials and support staffs were put through multiple COVID tests on reaching UAE.

A huge setback: 12 support staff, one cricketer from CSK found COVID positive

On the latest round of test done on Friday, a dozen personnel, including a fast bowler have been reported to be found positive. However, none of their identities are known yet.

“Even when football started in Europe, a few players had tested positive. So with eight IPL teams and over 1000 members, this was a possibility. This could have happened to any team. It is just unlucky that it has happened to CSK despite taking all kinds of precautions,” a source within CSK spoke to Times of India.

It was also developed that the affected cricketer is a right arm fast medium Indian international bowler, as said by those in the know.

In accordance to the SOP, the positive player and support staffs will be in self isolation outside the team’s bio secure bubble for two weeks from the day of testing. Following the isolation period, the personnel will have to test negative twice in two back to back PCR tests performed within a period of 24 hours. Only then, they will be allowed back into the team’s bio secure bubble.

As of now, the whole CSK squad is reported to be quarantined at their team hotel in Dubai. Due to the newly detected tests, the team has postponed their training from 1st September.
